Middle school FCCLA students participate in state leadership conference

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) students from Roxboro Road Middle School and Gillette Road Middle School recently attended the  New York State FCCLA Leadership Conference.  The conference provided students with the opportunity to interact with, and learn from other FCCLA students from around the state.

During the March 22 event held at the Double Tree Conference Center in East Syracuse, students engaged in various workshops such as: Your Digital Tattoo & Online ImageTraffic SafetyDress for Success and a culinary demonstration. This was an outstanding experience for our FCCLA students and gave them the opportunity to showcase their leadership skills.

On May 9 the Valley Central High School Family and Consumer Science Department put on their first ever Fashion Show and International Foods Night along with the Foreign Language Department to raise funds for FACS scholarships. The fashion show has been led by Rebekah Stoll for the past 3 years though this was the first time having the FACS department showcase their culinary skills as well. The evening started with a professional photographer coming in to take photos of the models in their student made clothes around the school. The photographer, Andrew Stoll Photography, continued to take pictures of the students on the runway. The show begin with a Trashion portion which included 4 outfits made entirely from recycled materials. In total, 26 students participated as either models or designers. The show was a success!

After the fashion show the culinary students showed off their international cooking skills. First year teacher, Samantha Eull, had her students represent several different countries including: Greece, Korea, China, Japan, Italy, The United States, Turkey, and Poland. The Foreign Language Department provided entertainment including a Flamenco dance performance. There was even a Henna Tattoo Artist there! It was a wonderful night!
